But in 1857 a man named Joseph Gayetty created a hemp based paper that was sold in stacks of individual sheets. But even then people in america still used newspaper and catalogs, Sears was a favorite because of the fact that is was printed on absorbant paper. Around the 1880’s the scott brothers created the first toilet paper roll.
