Favorite Holiday

10 06 2008

My favorite holiday is Christmas. Everyone in our family comes to our house on Christmas Eve and then we go to church where I play the organ. The mass ends at about 9:30 at night and then we go home annd go to bed. The next morning there are hiddne pickles on our tree and whever finds them gets to open the first presents.  And that is about it for traditions.

High School

7 02 2008

High School is a time to make great friends, start on the path to a career, and just start to become an adult. There is a single reason why highschool is important to me and it is very simple. Ever since first grade there has been almost like a ladder of power, starting with the lowest rung at 1st grade and slowly working up untill your at the top which is fifth grade. But then the next year you are at the bottom again and have to start all over. But when you get out of high school there is a different ladder, you have to work as hard as you can and once your at the top there is no automatic event that kickes you back again, you have to keep trying and when you get into high school for some people this is one of the ony times where there is a lot of responsibility put on them there is nobody to hold their hand, and that is why highschool is important to me because it is a time to show who adn what your and how hard you are willing to work.

My Cousin Is The Biggest Influence In My Life

14 12 2007

My cousin is now in college and should have come home yesterday for the holidays but, because of the snow he probably wont get in until Saturday or Sunday. The reason he influenced my life the most is because he was the one person who could really relate to me at any time, as well as liking many of the activities that I do and he is just alot like me.

What Is Really Out There?

6 12 2007

I wonder what is out past the end of the universe, is it nothing? Or is it something else?  some people may say that it never ends, but just try to grasp the concept of nothing just a black space that is what might be out there but if it never ends try to grasp a concept like that just going on forever. So athat is what I wonder and I hope to be able to find out.

One Out Of Five…

15 11 2007

When I couldn’t think of a topic to write about I was walking to my piano class when it almost hit me, a small branch about the size of a ruler fell on the ground right in front of me.  I was amazed at the fact that a single branch could be so complex, it amazed me further when i realized that all it was was layer upon layer of cell walls to make a branch.  when I looked up at the tree above me I realized that all it came from was a small seed.  And just with rain and sunshine they can thrive and grow. When you think of autumn do you think of thanksgiving or turkey but what some people take for granted is the trees leaves turning colors. So next time you go outside and it is autumn or any other time of the year just think of the natural beauty all around us.

“Flamingooo said that a tall tree is like a strong stalk of broccoli yum yum!!!”

And Flamingooo is right by the way because the next time you eat broccoli just think of a miniature tree. And on top of that tree are smaller trees, you could even imagine our hair as small trees because trees in the end are one of the main things keeping us alive so don’t waste them

Extra Extra Read All About it…

8 11 2007

Today on November 7th  1877, a composer named Henry Balfour Gardiner was born.  He was a composer, a teacher and a musician. He composed 2 symphonies and is best know for his piece titled Evening Hymn. He soon became a conductor of contemporary British composers and he financed many of the concerts himself. He also was quite generous with his small fortune and purchased one of his friends houses while he was dieing so he could still live in it. henry quit composing in 1925.

Live Blogging

25 10 2007

When mayor Dickinson told us a story, this is what it sounded like:

A kangaroo was in a fenced in area with an 8 foot high fence and the zoo keepers went to bed and the next morning they found the kangaroo out on the side walk. so they put him back and built the walls 30 feet high and when the zookeepers came back in the morning they found the kangaroo out on the sidewalk again.  So the giraffe asked how high do you think that they will build this fence? and that kangaroo answered 100 feet maybe 1000 feet I don’t know but I will always get out as long as they don’t lock the gate.

now mayor Dickinson said that this story meant that we can’t forget the basics but I think that it is just common sense and that he is right in the way that we need to have a foundation before we can thrive, but it’s just common sense.

This was the blog that I read, This is a paragraph from it

Americans drank some 37 billion bottles of water in 2005, despite the inconvenient truth that in most parts of the country, tap water is not only perfectly safe, but also more tightly regulated that its bottled counterpart… manufacturing plastic bottles for bottled water creates an astounding amount of pollution — an annual equivalent of 1.5 billion barrels of oil… Bottled water ‘very clearly reflects the wasteful and reckless consumerism in this country…

Here is a link to the blog I read. Earth

I found this blog by typing in Blog+Rainforest and I found this earth blog.  I just read a few of the posts and this one just got my interest.  Here is the comment that i left the bloggers:

Wow I just cant believe that in just one year making water bottles produces just as mush polution as 1.5 billion barrels of oil. I liked the post because it was short and to the point. And it gave alot f information.

I was unable to comment but I will try later, I could not comment because of the fact that there was an error when I hit the post button.

E-mailing a Company

24 10 2007

I e-mailed microsoft with these questions:

Dear Microsoft,

I recesntly got the Red Ring Of Death, I would like to know how I got it, how to fix it, and how to prevent it in the future.

Sincerely,
Roaming Gnome

I still have not gotten a response.

Blog Action Day…

18 10 2007

When I looked at the assignment this is what I saw:

The best way to participate is to post on your blog something that relates to the environment. Your post can be about anything to do with the environment. So you could write a post which is off topic for your blog OR relate the environment back to your topic in some way.

I thought that it was going be something that would take a few minutes because I didn’t think I would be that interested in this topic. What I found out about the Rainforest was very amazing in a bad way.

 So here are some facts:

  • Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth, now they cover 6%
  • 1 1/2 acres of rainforests are destroyed every second!
  • Estimate show that we are losing 137 plant and animal species every day due to rainforest devastation.
  • If you multiply that times 365 you get around 50,005 Species PER YEAR that are gone forever
  • Five centuries ago there were about 10 million native Indians living in the Amazon rainforest now there are only about 200,000
  • Just in Brazil European colonists have destroyed  more than 90 indigenous tribes
  • When the medicine man of a certain tribe dies without passing knowledge on to another generation, it is like losing thousands of years of medicinal plants and survival techniques.
  • Sometimes described as the lungs of our planet, the rainforest provides us with 20% of the earths oxygen
  • The Amazon rainforest alone makes up for a quarter of the entire bird species, imagine if that were destroyed,
  • Nearly half of all plants, animals, or microorganisms will become extinct or endangered in the next quarter of a century due to rainforest deforestation.

Are you as disgusted as I am?

Something New That I Learned…

18 10 2007

So when your parents say stop being a potty mouth, you have to think so who invented toilet paper anyway? To find the answer we must travel back to sixth centery china, But because of the fact that paper was so rare it was considered impractical. Though there were other ways, in Rome a sponge on a stick was used for the same purpose, for upper class people they use diolies or Lace, but for people who couldnt afford lace they used corn cobs without the corn(ouch).  But in 1857 a man named Joseph Gayetty created a hemp based paper that was sold in stacks of individual sheets.  But even then people in america still used newspaper and catalogs, Sears was a favorite because of the fact that is was printed on absorbant paper.  Around the 1880’s the scott brothers created the first toilet paper roll.

The Evolution of Podcasts…

11 10 2007

The podcast I chose to listen to was from the National Geographic Wild Chronicles. The podcast was about the Galapagos volcanoes and the evolution of the turtles on the island.  I thought this podcast was really interesting. I considered a few different podcasts. A few  I decided against because I was not interested in them. Some I had already listened to like Skydiving Radio, and Turkey Crossing. I found the podcast through  Mr. Bogush.  He  had suggested  the National Geographic Wild Chronicles and I just searched it and there were about 101 to choose from so I just randomly picked one. Here is where you can listen to the Podcast. I learned that the turtles on the Galapagos islands are very scarce and are slowly dying off, this is because humans used to hunt them for oil.  There are many volcanoes on the island, so if there is an eruption it is important to get the turtles out.  I also learned that The Galapagos Islands are home to many animals who have adapted to the numerous active volcanoes that are present on the island.

Here is the email I sent to National Geographic:

I Really enjoyed this podcast and would recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about animals and how there are people  trying to help them, listening to this made me want to help too.

25 Styles of Blogging…

11 10 2007

Detractor Blogging; a passionate distaste or dislike of a particular brand or thing.  I don’t like spammers.    Sometimes people get comment crazy and send out  general spams to everybody.  If you are sending a specific message, I think that is ok.  I just wish that people who say that they will comment on your blog if you comment on theirs should just comment first. Maybe someone will comment back. It is a two-way street: you can’t say to give me something and I will give it back.  Sometimes you have to make the first move.

25 Styles Of Blogging… Survey Blogging

4 10 2007

Imagine yourself packing for a trip into the wilderness.  Now imagine that you have become lost. You are trying to make your way back to civilization and you can bring 3 things for your trek out of the wilderness. The dense forest prevents cell phone and emergency beacons from transmitting. A flare gun would just start a forest fire.  Due to the heavy rainfall most of the matches have been ruined, this means if you choose matches you will only have about 10. You have enough food for about a week you can take extra if you want, though.  Water is no problem; you have enough for a month.  The items you can bring are only limited to your imagination. And please, keep it school appropriate.

My Biggest Obstacle And Dream

4 10 2007

I would really like to enjoy all the time I have being a kid and not have to worry about the future.  I don’t have a big dream or a grand vision yet.  I am still learning about things I didn’t even know existed yesterday! The biggest problem then, would probably be finding a  goal and that might take a long time to do. I am realizing things I do really have big consequences,  and you have to take responsibility for things and not your parents. You need to get a job and start worrying about high school and college. That combined with all of the other things going on; I will just have fun while I’m still a kid.

Top ten Instuments…

1) Piano

2)Saxaphone

3)Guitar

4)Drums

5)Bass

6)Trumpet

7)Violin/Viola

8)Cello

9)Flute

10)Clarinet

Please comment honestly about what your favorite instrument is and why. I wish you would have another explanation other than, “I like it because it is cool.”  I think that the piano in my favortite because  of its versitility, you can play it in a solo or in a whole orchestra, and you can sing while playing it, that is why it is my favorite instrument.

What I Would do if I Were not afraid…

27 09 2007

If I were not afraid I would probably speak up more in class, and in general about things that I think are done wrong.  I would also speak out more if I think or see things that I feel  are  unfair or unreasonable. If you would like to speak up in class about a lesson you should not have to worry about detention or being verbally undermined in class.  Even though teachers know alot about their subjects and they have gone to school to learn how to teach us, listening to a students opinion can change the whole  course of the year. That is what I would do if I were not afraid.

Drug Tests For People Who Are Involved IN After School Activities

27 09 2007

I think that all students should be tested, that is because even kids in after school activities can get involved with drugs. and excluding them could make all drug users want to go to an after school program to avoid being tested. Then we have a school with too many people in after school activities and the people who realy want to do them cant do anything because the people who did it to not be drug tested will take up their spots.  But some drug users might stop all together if they join a after school activity and that would be a good thing. So all students should be tested regardless off their after school participation.

Weekly Riddle…

What Is the only thing that when you take away from it, it gets bigger?

Last Weeks Riddle Answer: The King of Spades in a Deck of Cards

One Web Day

20 09 2007

Mary (Church Secretary)

 Questions:

1)How did you spend your time differently?

I would spend more time outside riding my bike and playing.

2)What things were easier to do?

I think that the internet has made it easier to contact people who live far away and with instant messaging and email, communication is almost instantaneous.

3) What things were harder to do?

Writing

4)What would you change about the internet?

I would make it faster.

Jennette (My organ Teacher):

1) How did you spend your time differently?

Reading and practicing the organ and an instrument called the Gamba

2) What things were harder to do?

Finding information was harder.  You had to leave the house and go to the library to do research, unless your family had a set of encyclopedias. Information was not at our fingertips.  Now you can Google a subject and you can find tons of informaion quickly without leaving your house

3)What things are easier to do?

Communicate with people across town and around the world.

4)What would you change about the internet?

I would like it to provide more personal security. I don’t like it that my personal information is readily available to anyone on the internet who wants to look.

Diana (Church Member)

1)How did you spend your time differently?

I played dominoes, card games, and board games more

2) What things were harder to do?

I think it was harder to talk to people who were far away or spoke another language.

3)What things were easier to do?

It was easier to meet your neighbors and see people face to face.

4)What would you change about the internet?

I would make it so everyone has the same version.

It all was Shaping up to be a Normal Day…

12 09 2007

September 11th was a day just like any other. Men and women alike, went off to their jobs at the World Trade Center. More than 2000 of them would never return.  The first plane slammed into the Twin Towers around 8:46 am. Then the second plane crashed into the other tower.  About 45 minutes later the first tower collapsed. I was in second grade when this incident happened. I remember my teacher,  Mrs. Len  told us all about the attacks on the world trade centers. I remember that my mom took us out of school early. Other that that it was all a blur, being in second grade, I had no idea who attacked the World Trade Centers. I didn’t understand what terrorism meant. I remember my family being very subdued at home and the teachers were like that too. I just think that no single person can understand the magnitude of the event that took place that day. I think  it will take many years to finally realize that the amount of people that died is not a way to measure the size of an event but it is the number of people who cared and were hurt not physically but mentally. We should remember those who perished, but we must not dwell on events that were so tragic, but instead think about the good things and remember the people we lost as they would have wanted to be remembered.
